News in classification and labeling of chemicals (01 / 2012)

The Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS/CLP Regulation)
is in force since 20 January 2009 and is a big reform of the classification regulations.

The GHS/CLP regulates the classification, labeling and packaging of substances and mixtures worldwide.
As from 2015 GHS/CLP replaces the Dangerous Preparations Directive for mixtures completely.
It is allowed to apply the new labeling from now on.

Changes are related to:

  • New classification and labeling elements, new criteria, hazard classes and hazard categories
  • 9 Hazard pictograms (former 7 symbols)
  • 71 Hazard statements (former 66 R-phrases)
  • 137 Precautionary (former 54 S-phrases)

There is a transition period for the implementation by the producers.

Although it is mandatory only in 2015 for mixtures, BKG Water Solutions has already committed to the new law
and started to implement the new Regulation on MSDS and Labels. As more than 10,000 MSDS are concerned
this implementation will be done progressively and smoothly.

For more information please ask your local BKG Water Solutions representative.
