BKG WS support CARE in Africa

LUDWIGSHAFEN, GERMANY, December 2011 — BKG Water Solutions continues its social engagement. This year our support is dedicated to the people suffering from drought and hunger in East Africa. Together with CARE, an experienced worldwide active humanitarian organization, we decided to support the water supply and sanitation improvement in the world’s largest refugee camp, located in Dadaab, Kenya.
BKG Water Solutions supports CARE programme against the drought and food crisis in the Horn of Africa
The Horn of Africa region is experiencing the most serious food crisis in the world today. Successive seasons of failed rains, combined with increasing food prices, underdevelopment, poor governance, conflict and limited humanitarian access have resulted in food insecurity, water shortages and acute malnutrition. The Horn of Africa region now received heavy rains that have led to flooding and an increase in cases of waterborne disease, like cholera. Over 13.3 million people are in need of urgent assistance.
Water, Sanitation and Health
CARE helps on the spot with mobile water tanks and also develops a decent water infrastructure. The goal of these projects is to provide safe water and to reduce the health risks of water-related diseases. Projects also include educating people about good hygiene practice, which reduces the risk of illnesses. In Dadaab, CARE
- distributes daily 7.5 million liters of drinking water
- built and maintains 170 km of water pipes
- established 480 water points
- educates in sanitation, provides hygiene packages
To support the people in Dadaab and the growing number of new refugees, BKG Water Solutions has decided to join CARE‘s efforts in constructing and maintaining systems for water distribution and sanitation in the camps, e.g.

Boreholes for springs and submersible pumps

Electric generators, generator buildings

Deep tanks and tank trucks

Water pipes and water-tap supports
“We share with CARE the common goal of global responsibility”, said Jordi Verdés, Business Director of BKG Water Solutions, “We were delighted to be able to make a donation to such a worthwhile organisation“, he continues, “The money was raised through the committment of the entire company.“
We hope that the donation of BKG Water Solutions will help CARE to develop and improve the water supply and sanitation in Dadaab and make the life of all refugees a little easier.
